Teaching aircraft design through a blended learning method in a higher education
Kwiek, Agnieszka
A blended learning is a method which combines a few teaching methods. Usually it is a mix of classic teaching approach with using of online tools. A Nearpod is technology enhanced learning (TEL) tool which allows for creating an interactive presentation which can be delivered in a real time session or in a self-paced mode. The presentation can be displayed on a student’s computer or mobile phone. This paper presents how students experience can be enhanced by the implementation of a blended learning in aircraft design lectures. And how a Nearpod can be integrated into those lectures to help students develop such skills as creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, which are vital for aircraft design project and students’ further career in the aerospace sector. This study focuses on aeronautical students studying at the University of Brighton in School of Computing Engineering and Mathematics. Students group includes BEng., MEng. and BSc. Top-Up students who were enrolled in level 6 module - ME351 Aircraft Design and Management Project. Results reveal that students' attendance is higher than traditional lectures and the most favorite and helpful activities are quizzes & polls, draw it and fill blanks. Aerospace engineering students prefer Nearpod activities where they can choose an answer or draw it rather than writing it.
Digital tools for pupils' home preparation for CLIL classes in maths
Šteidl, Martin ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moraová, Hana (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to give account of experimental teaching of a CLIL, namely in combination with blended learning at the second level of elementary school. The starting point was a reflection on how to relieve the overloaded of schedule of lessons devoted to non-linguistic subjects, in which many teachers now struggle with time to manage to teach all that is needed. To answer the question as to how pupils of an eighth grade of primary school, would respond to a new type of lessons in an unusual form, I tried to perform a teaching experiment in which the pupils went through a hard CLIL programme driven by blended learning. The available resources on this issue have been elaborated in the form of the theoretical part, which forms the first part of this work. It deals with CLIL, e- lerarning and blended learning. The second part consists of the preparation of the research and the third part is devoted to its implementation. The research consisted of three hours of full-time teaching enriched by blocks of e-learning support. During the preparation and implementation of the project, I tried to find sources of motivation that would encourage pupils to spend their extra-maths learning time. I collected the data for the subsequent analysis by participating and mediated observation, using...

Developing communicative competence through online discussion tasks: computer mediated communication and the skill of writing
Tůma, František ; Píšová, Michaela (advisor) ; Betáková, Lucie (referee) ; Dontcheva Navratilova, Olga (referee)
This dissertation deals with the developing and development of EFL learners' communicative competence in writing in a blended learning course. The dissertation addresses issues related to the conceptualization of developing communicative competence and measuring learners' progress as well as using ICT in foreign language teaching. The underlying research question was whether learners' communicative competence changed after using a series of online discussion tasks, and if so, in what manner. The empirical research was conducted as a case study in which 18 learners in an EFL course at the CEFR A2 level participated in three discussion tasks conducted online, using asynchronous discussion forum. The discussions were built on social constructivist learning theories. Methods of data collection and analysis included pre- and post-tests, learner corpus compiled from the texts written by the students in two online discussions and its analysis, and a questionnaire survey. The results showed that learners' overall level of communicative competence in writing improved. Specifically, the syntactic complexity of learners' language produced at the beginning and at the end of the course increased and learners' perceived fluency in writing improved. These findings support the claim that learners' active participation in...
Use of blended learning with Gamification elements in elementary school
Lešinger, Stanislav ; Benda, Petr (advisor) ; Monika , Monika (referee)
The thesis is focused on blended learning with Gamification elements in elementary school. The work should serve as a tool for creators of blended learning, or e-learning courses in the LMS Moodle. Contains a theoretical overview of the problem of blended learning, motivation in education and Gamification. Based on the theoretical foundations of the thesis analyzes the specific environment of elementary school and defines the target group of pupils. It also describes the selection, development and design of a specific product, selected on the basis of the generated list of available products. The conclusion contains a description of the product implementation and verification of its functionality and effectiveness on the target group of students. The result is a functional and proven deployment Gamification concept of blended learning course based on Moodle.
